As you may know I have birthed 2 humans, Josephine 7 and Boadicea 5. I did not quite know what I was getting myself in for! Ha! No one told me! There was obvs lots to discover especially 7 years ago when I had my first… it was a mixed bag! There was the cesarean recovery, bleeding boobs (don’t ask), crazy emotions, not to mention being responsible for keeping a small human alive! On a positive what I hadn’t quite appreciated were the new friends I would make. During my pregnancy I joined yoga, where I met one of my bestest pals… bonus. Then there was Bosom Buddies at the wonderful and much needed SureStart to support my breastfeeding- I met lots of friends there too. I went to many baby groups including Piccolo Music, Lingotot, Spanish and rhyme time, which both my babes and I loved. Through my maternity leave I found my tribe who cared for each other, sure there was A LOT of baby talk, but there was the odd afternoon tea, nights out and even 2 weddings to celebrate together. These new humans in my life were my support system and the sleeplessness, tears and s**t would have been unbearable with out them.
I totally understand the positive impact other humans can have on your mental health, especially at vulnerable times, like pregnancy and maternity leave. I was and still am passionate to offer our space, Thought Foundation as a safe haven for everyone including parents and their young humans. The knowledge I gained during multiply outings with my 2 was the inspiration to set up the play spaces with Thought Foundation, including our huge sandpit and imagination station alongside offering our thought provoking exhibitions and wholesome food for everyone to enjoy.
Our audience of parents has grown over time encouraging us to come up with bespoke events like BORN- The Thoughtful Parenting Fair. We have teamed up with Holly from For Mama and Baba to curate and host a one-stop shop for bump, baby and beyond. On the 7th July 10-2pm Thought Foundation will be a buzz with a curated artisan market of local retailers offering locally made, ethically sourced and organic products for you and your tiny human. There will be lots of businesses who can support you on your parenting journey, from pre and post natal health, breastfeeding and baby wearing to massage and messy play! There will also be taster sessions and workshops for you try. It’s £2.50 entry (children are free), which includes a donation to our chosen charity; the Tiny Lives Trust which supports premature and sick babies, their mothers and families at the Special Care Baby Unit on ward 35 at the RVI Newcastle.
Thought Foundation has lots to offer parents on a weekly basis, as do many other venues in the northeast, the world is rich- you just have to get out there. Don’t be alone on your parenting journey, together is better.
NB- TF is for all humans, we try to offer something for everyone, we take time to create exhibitions, events and stuff that enrich experiences for as many people as possible.
